Title:  Hegel’s Holiday

Date: 1958

Description: In this painting there is a glass of water which is sitting on top of an umbrella that is standing up solely on it’s on.

Analysis: This painting is ignoring the rules of gravity. The umbrella is standing on its own and balancing a glass of water on top of it. The painting is pretty straight forward as there is not too much going on in the background, just a solid  background. The colors all go well together and the painting is surely unique to an everyday painting.

Judgment: I think that the artist did a good job at portraying the impossible. It’s an illusion of reality. Looking at this picture it almost makes you believe that it is possible for an umbrella to be balancing by itself and for a glass of water to be sitting on top. Something about it just makes it believable and I feel that it is very successful.

Title: Untitled

Date: 2012

Description: An image of hands holding the ocean with a boat on it. The image blends into the hands making it appear as though the image of the ocean is a part of the hands.

Analysis: The photo is in black and white and the two images fade into one another. My focus immediately goes to the scene of the boat on the water. You can’t make the two pictures apart because of the placement.

Judgement:   I really like this piece because of how well it was put together. The images were placed really well and the composition of this piece is really nice. I also like how the photographer decided to put the photo into black and white
